In Uncategorized on January 12, 2011 at 8:33 pm

This past December 14th an English-Hungarian language petition, Hands Off Culture and Media in Hungary, was launched. It protests against governmental threats to the sovereignty of the freedom of art and press in Hungary. So far 3,040 people have added their signatures–not only from Hungary but all over the world. Renowned Hungarian artists and journalists and world-famous theatre people have joined together in protest. Some of the most well-known names include:

Edward Albee, Philip Arnoult, Tamás Ascher, Cate Blanchett, Caryl Churchill, Bernard Faivre d’Arcier, Martin Crimp, Stefano de Luca, Thomas Irmer, Elfriede Jelinek, Yun-Cheol Kim, Renate Klett, Oskaras Korsunovas, Dea Loher, Frie Leysen, Ivan Nagel, Lars Nygren, Gordon Rogoff, Andrei Serban, Stephen Simons, Sjón, Wole Soyinka, János Szász, Béla Tarr, Ivo van Hove

This petition will be taken down within the week.  Please add your signature and send a message that we will not stand by and watch our Hungarian brothers and sisters be shackled by the chains of censorship.  Now is the time to make your voice heard!

Keep watch with us.
